5 Pittsburgh Charities to Donate to this Holiday Season

Categories: Local News/Events

During the holiday season, many people are looking to give back to others in their local communities. There are many amazing charities and non-profits throughout Pittsburgh seeking donations and volunteers. This holiday season, consider giving back to one of these charities:

Non-Profit Organizations in Pittsburgh

North Hills Community Outreach Winter Coat Collection

Every year, the North Hills Community Outreach collects winter coats for those in need. The coats must be new or gently worn and in good condition, with functioning zippers and buttons. Before donating a coat, make sure it is clean! Many organizations do not have the funds or facilities to wash the coats.

The Pittsburgh Foundation

In the aftermath of the October 27th shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, The Pittsburgh Foundation is seeking to raise funds to benefit those who were killed or wounded in this shooting. These funds will be donated to eight organizations meeting the needs of those affected by this shooting. If you find yourself short on time, but a little heavy in the pocket, monetary donations going to a local cause is a great option!

One Warm Coat

One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that helps to give a free warm coat to any person in need. Since 1992, this organization has given coats to 5,600,000 people in the United States and 10 other countries. They are happy to accept monetary donations as well. The J.Crew at Ross Park Mall is a One Warm Coat drop-off location in Pittsburgh—while you’re out shopping for a new winter jacket, you can simply leave your previous coat there!

Light of Life Rescue Mission

The Light of Life seeks to provide a home and food to those who are homeless and hungry. This holiday season, this organization is seeking donations and volunteers. On Thanksgiving Day, Light of Life is expecting to feed over 1,000 individuals. Volunteers are needed to greet people and serve meals.

Toys for Tots
